Sand at low tide with pools of water and ripples near Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island

Japanese Head Spa Serving Qualicum Beach Residents

About 40 minutes south on Highway 19 from Qualicum Beach — Flamingo House Spa is the closest authentic Japanese head spa to the Oceanside region.

Why Qualicum Beach Guests Visit Us

Qualicum Beach is the quieter half of the Oceanside duo — a relaxed seaside town known for its wide sandy beaches, the Heritage Forest trails, and a walkable village centre with local shops and cafés. It's a retirement destination and a favourite for visitors seeking a slower, more old-fashioned Vancouver Island pace. It's the kind of place where you say hello to strangers on the street.

What you won't find in the village shops, however, is an authentic Japanese head spa. The closest one is Flamingo House Spa in Nanaimo — about a 40-minute drive south via Highway 19, just past Parksville. For Qualicum Beach residents who've heard about Japanese head spas (often from friends in larger cities, or through the social media videos that introduced millions to the experience), the drive to Nanaimo is the nearest option.

Our Qualicum Beach visitors tend to be a mix: retirees who've embraced the head spa as part of their wellness routine and visit monthly, couples who book a joint session as a special weekend outing, and visitors staying in the Oceanside area who discover us through recommendations from their B&B hosts or a quick online search. Because the drive is about 40 minutes, most plan a longer session and pair it with a stop in Parksville or Nanaimo.

What We Offer

Qualicum Beach guests most often book the 60-minute Heavenly Head Escape and the 90-minute Royal Roots Experience — the longer sessions, understandably, for a drive that's about 40 minutes each way. Hot stone massage is also a frequent add-on. Every session includes aromatherapy, a warm welcome with chocolate and beverage, and a charm gift. Our studio is private and home-based: one or two guests at a time, never rushed.

Directions from Qualicum Beach

From Qualicum Beach, take Highway 19 south toward Nanaimo — the drive is about 40 minutes. Parksville is roughly the halfway point. Exit at Northfield Road, continue south, and turn onto Dufferin Street. The studio is at 951 Dufferin Street with free on-site parking. For a more scenic drive, the 19A (Island Highway) follows the coastline past Parksville and Lantzville.

A Seaside Sensibility, an Indoor Escape

Qualicum Beach is a town built around the outdoors — beach walks, golf, garden strolls through Milner Gardens. What Flamingo House offers is a different kind of sensory experience: completely indoor, quiet, and focused entirely on your scalp and head. No wind, no sunscreen, no steps to count — just a dimly lit treatment room, a reclined position, and the slow, methodical rhythm of a Japanese head spa session.

This contrast is part of why Qualicum Beach regulars keep coming back. The head spa isn't competing with the beach — it's the complement. A winter visit when the weather keeps you indoors. A summer cool-down after a week of hosting visiting family. A treat-yourself session that has nothing to do with productivity and everything to do with letting go for an hour.
